can
be able to 等於 can，兩者都可以表示「能夠做某事」。不過，be able to 強調通過努力而獲得的能力，而 can 則更多地表示一種天賦或習慣性的能力。在時態的使用上，be able to 可以用於任何時態，只需根據時態變化 be 動詞的形式，而 can 主要用於一般現在時和過去式。例如，I am able to run fast（我現在能夠跑得快）和 She could speak three languages（她過去能夠說三種語言）。此外，be able to 的否定形式與 can 的否定形式相似，如 can't 對應 am not/isn』t/aren』t able to。
