漁夫和金魚的故事英文

The Fisherman and the Gold Fish is a traditional Russian folktale. Here's its English translation:

Once upon a time, there was a poor fisherman who sat by the river's edge, casting his net into the water. He caught nothing but bitterns and frogs. One day, he caught a beautiful golden fish.

"Please let me go," pleaded the fish. "I am not like the others you catch. I am a human being who has been turned into a fish by a spell."

The fisherman was intrigued and let the fish go. He came back the next day and caught the same fish again. The fish told him that if he let him go, he would grant him three wishes.

The fisherman thought about it for a while and said, "I wish to have enough money to feed my family for a lifetime." Suddenly, a bag of gold coins appeared in his hands.

The fisherman was amazed and said, "I wish for a wife who is as beautiful as the princess." A beautiful princess appeared before him, and they married.

Finally, he said, "I wish to be able to speak to you without your people hearing us." The fish granted his wish, and they had a wonderful life together.

One day, the fisherman forgot to feed the fish and forgot to feed his family. The fish was angry and turned back into a princess, saying that he wanted his three wishes back. But now that he had too many wishes, he could not grant them all. He cursed the fisherman and left him alone on the riverbank.

"I was greedy and selfish," he thought. "Now I am cursed with only my family and my poverty."

The moral of this story is that we should not be greedy or selfish because it can lead to our own downfall.
